Fascinate Customers with a Photorealistic Embroidery Preview

By: Caitlyn Knezevic | July 1, 2021 | 3 Min Read

In a digital world, sellers of embroidery products must offer customers a tangible embroidery preview.

An embroidery design viewer that displays photorealistic renderings will not only entice customers to buy your product, it will also ensure that the quality of the end product meets their expectations.

Let’s talk about how e-commerce brands and companies can achieve this level of customer service through dynamic imaging.

The Rich World of Embroidery

Embroidery is fascinating. And while its root word, broderie, means “embellishment” in French, its origins can be dated back to about 30,000 BC. Archeological evidence suggests the Cro-Magnons heavily hand-stitched and decorated their clothes! In other areas of the world, including China, Sweden, and most parts of Europe, archaeologists have found hand-stitched products that became the foundation for what is now known to be embroidery. It can either be done by hand or by machine, but either way the results are mesmerizing.

For a moment, look around and find something that is stitched or, better yet, a sample of embroidery design. Look at the intricacies of the threads. See how they entwine and cross over to deliver the overall result. From a distance, an embroidered pattern appears as a solid object; but up close, you can see every small detail that is part of its composition. And those small details are what fuels my passion for embroidery.

Threads are a necessary part of many items that you interact with every day. They give fabrics the structure needed to transform into something that is functional, beautiful, and valuable. Additionally, threads can be used to create detailed designs. These designs could be for practical usage, like someone’s name used to identify a possession, a sport logo to create uniforms, or a combination of a name and company logo to unify staff. Designs can also be embellishments to reflect personal style, cultural traditions, or to express one’s creativity.

Regardless of the use case, embroidery is the art of using threads to decorate materials. It can be very personal and customization limits are endless—well, limits do depend on the number of colored threads you have available.

Embroidery in this Digital Age

Today, embroidered products, as well as other handmade articles of clothing, are extremely valued in the fashion industry.

Ever since sewing machines were created and clothes became mass produced, anything handcrafted has been conferred a special status, hence what is known as haute couture. Ulla Johnson, a Brooklyn-based designer and self-proclaimed “child of the ‘70s” said in a Wall Street Journal article:

“There was a time when I wondered if people read the labels and knew where their clothes were made, but I think that’s changing…[People are] appreciative of something that is handmade.”

Even in e-commerce, embroidered products are all the rage. And while this can now be done through high-tech machinery and advanced software, the level of personalization that this art of stitching affords remains powerful.

If your business provides the option to customize embroidery, it is not enough to simply offer the ability to place an order. It is crucial to be able to provide customers with an embroidery preview; to show them first-hand what their custom embroidery is going to look like on your product.

Don’t make it a guessing game. Give your customers the experience they are looking for when shopping around for embroidered products. By enabling an embroidery preview function on your website, you let them see how each thread is going to appear. Simulating a sample of embroidery design on the material itself gives them the reason they need to choose your product without hesitation.
